A landscaper and a gentleman.

Leo's first time helping mama mow,
and he was dressed to the nines after church
while he bumped happily about and the hum of the engine lulled him to sleep.

My sweet boy it's so much fun to share these firsts with you.

Photo Swap

We had a family photos taken this week...cannot wait to see the results!
In the meantime, Mama made this quilt
as a trade for Chelsea who was up for the challenge of making us look presentable.
She sent a link of the quilt that inspired this creation,
image1.PNG
and I think the one I created is pretty similar.
Chelsea really liked the TP print on the back and luckily I was able to snag some on Etsy.
Although this isn't really anything I would ever pick on my own
(not crazy or busy enough for this wild gal)
I found myself falling for the bold contrast and great boy print
...and now I want one too!

This week in the garden...

Clematis is blooming!
Lilly of the Valley...
so fragrant...
always makes me think of my mom; it was one of her wedding flowers
Iris of yellow and purple are just opening up
Peonies (our early variety) color the landscape
Soapwart is starting it's season
Columbine,
Colorado's state flower,
is popping up all over the place!
and even in double!
and Chives, anyone who grows them knows this one is a love-hate situation.
So beautiful when in bloom, but if you don't cut them off quickly...chives.CHIVES EVERYWHERE! Isn't that just like life...we must manage both our blessings and our burdens, or they will take over.

7 months

Leo is doing more and more these days like:
having a conversation by saying "heah heah" back and forth
"airplaning" on his belly
scooting backwards
(and crying when getting stuck in places)
sink baths
helping with dishes
banging anything like a drum
holding his toys hands-free in his mouth...cracks be up every time!
sitting up on his own from belly position
crawling a few "steps"
pulling himself to standing
tearing paper (and trying to eat it!)
"singing" himself to sleep
giggling at mama
spitting out his pacifier
rubbing his tongue on his gums where he must be working on getting teeth
eating lots of new foods pureed by Mama like: beets, sweet potato, banana, blueberries, kiwi, strawberries, carrots, apples, and squash (and beefing up to over 20lbs!)
drinking from a sippy cup
learning to turn on the facet
eating dirt/helping in the garden
generally being the greatest gift Eric or I could've imagined!

My mom is one who admittedly doesn't enjoy cooking, but we always had a stand mixer and maybe that was because it was something my mom always wanted, or maybe it was because her mom had one and that's just what you did...at any rate, we always had a stand mixer and all of the wonderful treats that came with it.  I took for granted that this was a stock kitchen item like a stove.  Mom made cookies, not from frozen dough or powder mix, FROM SCRATCH.  That's how we did almost everything.  Pizza dough was no exception.  So when a close friend told me in all her years she had never made dough from scratch, I was AMAZED!  I've been doing it as long as I can remember, and as so many great skills I must credit to my Mom, I took for granted that this happened in every home.
Happy Mother's Day Mom, and thank you for giving me the blessing of a childhood full of lessons and knowledge I didn't even know I was absorbing.
